For years I had been frustrated working with the figure and realizing I could more than I could describe with paint or charcoal. I figured some aspects of the figure were simply impossible to describe. Then I stumbled into sculpture and found, to my delight, that my fingers could tell the clay what shape to form. It was the ‘thing’ that had been missing in my 2D work.
